Would you witness the low tide scene like I did? How many of you have seen Changi Beach at low tide?
Sure there is still scope for beach-side fun and recreational activities. Like sandcastle building. Picnics by the sea. Leisurely strolls on wet sand. Footprints, shoe prints, broken tiles, mangled branches and perhaps some ubiquitous pools of litter.
There are more things to see than what I have described.
So if you get a chance, take a walk along Changi Beach at low tide. See for yourself how the beach line appears.

We played with these simple but engaging puzzle pieces for kids on a recent visit to Changi Airport T3.
These puzzle pieces for kids could be found at basement 3 of terminal 3. At the time of our visit, a good crowd of kids and their parents were engrossed in playing them.
Shift the 8-piece puzzle pieces for kids and try to form a complete picture. Sounds easy but until when you try it gets a bit tricky. Certainly worth exercising some grey matter to solve the puzzle.

The puzzle pieces for kids are a great idea to attract children's and parents' attention to the mini-exhibition provided by the National Heritage Board. Items were drawn from Peranakan Museum and The Asian Civilisations Museum.
However, I think my kids were more focused on trying their hand at solving the puzzle pieces for kids, then reading about the history of those necklaces and other museum exhibits.
I brought my kids to Singapore Changi Airport. After a meal at one of the restaurants there, we strolled around and discovered there was a Changi Airport T3 Slide.

Actually, we found two Changi Airport T3 slides. One Changi Airport T3 Slide was about single storey high, while the other Changi Airport T3 slide was about three storey high.
The slides appeared to be made of steel mesh and both slides ran close to each other. Kids lined up at the opening located at the top, entered the tunnel-like slide and re-appeared at the other end of the Changi Airport T3 slide at the other end.
The shorter Changi Airport T3 Slide is free for all kids to try, while the taller slide is only open to those who can produce a receipt for a minimum spend of $30. Each $30 receipt entitles the holder to 2 rides on the Changi Airport T3 slide.

This was the destination that took me close to Resorts World Sentosa during the June school holidays.
If you visit this playground on a cruise early enough, there will not be many other visitors. You will need to board the cruise early in order to get this playground all to yourself. Imagine having all these playground on a cruise to yourself and family.

As a destination without its Gaming component, I think Resorts World Sentosa has enough family-friendly sights and sounds to interest everyone in my family.
With attractions like Universal Studios Singapore, Festive Walk, Marine Life Park (opening after 2010) and Maritime Xperiential Museum (opening after 2010), Resorts World Sentosa ought to generate enough buzz for the entire family.
I will likely wait for the all attractions to be ready, and for the crowds to thin out before visiting Resorts World Sentosa.
Have you seen a cable car at Kent Ridge Park Singapore recently? Yes, one those cable cars that used to hang high in the sky between Mt Faber Park and Sentosa Island.
I saw one disused cable car, complete with seats, at Kent Ridge Park on a recent visit there. You can actually enter and exit this cable car that shares the same plot of land with an old SM-1 tank as a neighbour.

In the day time, under the glare of a hot sun, the Kent Ridge Park cable car acts like a hot stove, discouraging park visitors from taking shelter inside the cable car.
When it gets cooler, I think this cable car at Kent Ridge Park would be an ideal spot for a picnic and some nice conversations.
However if there are too many users, they'll have to settle for a tight squeeze with backs facing each others' backs.
If you love the many parks and nature reserves of Singapore, you will appreciate this "Love Green: Just Bin It" programme. What is this "Love Green: Just Bin It" programme?
Organized by the National Parks Board (NParks), the "Love Green: Just Bin It!" programme is to encourage park users to keep parks and nature reserves free from litter. This programme supports the National Environment Agency's (NEA) new national anti-littering campaign to be launched in June 2010.
As part of this programmme, an online video competition (with a top prize of S$10,000 to be won) has been launched to create awareness and support in spreading the anti-littering message amongst park users.
I encourage all Seen This Scene That readers to read more about it at the link below. Even if you don't plan to create a video, you can also win prizes in two ways: by referring friends to view the videos and by voting online for the winner.

My Seen This Scene That posting rate has slowed to a crawl in the past month or two due to pressing matters.
As a parent with three school-going kids and with one child sitting for the PSLE examinations this month, I have been cutting back on my Seen This Scene That outings recently.
For those who are not familiar with the term 'PSLE' which stands for Primary School Leaving Examination, this is the same examination that all Primary Six students in Singapore must sit for before they leave primary school.
This is my second experience and it has not been any easier. As a family keen on regular outings, we have had to prioritize family activities and to curtail some trips. Public parks, park connectors, farms, reservoirs, playgrounds, beaches and open spaces in Singapore have not been seeing Seen This Scene That et el for some time.
With the exams completed, we can heave a collective sigh of relief and resume our usual activities and routine visits to the many family-friendly places in Singapore.
With re-visits to familiar haunts and exploration of new crooks and crannies around our Little Red Dot to plan for, Seen This Scene That's calendar should fill up fully.
Still, it will take time to crank up my engine for Seen This Scene That before postings start to flow.

Music lovers can now get excited during the F1 Singapore Grand Prix season as these mega-stars and mega-performers will be flying in to town for a rare date with fans in Singapore.
Singapore's newest nature park, the Dairy Farm Nature Park, was officially opened to the public on 5 September 2009. Before that, blogger friend YG had given a sneak peep of Dairy Farm Nature Park with his posts.

I visited the south-western end of Dairy Farm Nature Park where the Singapore Quarry stood before the park was opened to the public too. (Here is the earlier Dairy Farm Nature Park post.)

According to NParks site and the write-up in The Sunday Times of 6 September 2009, this brand new nature park has two unique features that I found interesting.
The first feature that I would like to highlight is the Wallace Education Centre, a former cowshed now turned into a learning centre. It houses the Wallace Environmental Learning Lab (WELL) and an interpretative centre where visitors can learn about the changing landscapes of Dairy Farm Nature Park and Bukit Timah Nature Reserve through various exhibits.
The other must-see feature at Dairy Farm Nature Park are the rare Little Grebe at the Singapore Quarry wetland reserve. The birds are just a small part of the rich biodiversity on the 63-hectare park. Visitors who walk or mountain bike along Dairy Farm Nature Park's nature trails can witness the amazing fauna and flora available in the area.
The Dairy Farm Nature Park is open from 7am to 7pm daily with free admission for visitors.
To get there, take bus service SMRT 700, 700A or 966 and alight at bus stop along Petir Road between Chestnut Ave and Dairy Farm Road. There are two public car parks along Dairy Farm Road.
As I was not aware of the rare Little Grebe (even if I did, the quarry was closed at the time of my earlier visit) and the Wallace Education Centre, looks like I will need to perform a follow-up visit to the Dairy Farm Nature Park soon.

Heritage Tree: Tamarind Tree (Asam Tree) At Surin Avenue Neighbourhood Park
On my recent walk around a park in Singapore, I came across this Heritage Tree at Surin Avenue Neighbourhood Park. The Tamarind Tree (Tamarindus indica), also known as Asam Tree, was found about midway between Aroozoo Avenue and Surin Avenue next to a children's playground.
I wonder how many families with kids would take the time to smell the plants and enjoy the tree shades at Surin Avenue Neighbourhood park, instead of zooming into the skating corner or children's playground.
I think fewer families with kids would pause to read the sign featuring the Heritage Tree. Perhaps only a handful of families with kids would go on to snap a photograph of this Heritage Tree. Maybe one or two would post a picture of a Heritage Tree online for a discussion.
Guess who belongs to that one or two families with kids who is intrigued by a Heritage Tree in a hidden corner of Singapore? :-)

"The Tamarind tree is a medium-sized fruit tree with a round-shaped crown. It is a slow-growing tree, with brown fruit pods containing several hard and flat seeds enveloped by a juicy pulp. The Tamarind tree is widely cultivated for its sweet-sourish fruit pulp known as "asam" in Southeast Asian and Indian cuisine, and for making Worcestershire sauce.
Mostly Chinese and Eurasian villagers occupied this part of Upper Serangoon in the early 1900s and many of them kept fruit tree plantations. This Heritage Tree could be one of the fruit trees sown by villagers in their garden or plantation land."

I do not mind sharing this place to watch sunset in Singapore with all my readers. It is a beautiful place in the eastern part of Singapore to enjoy a free outdoor evening show of Mother nature.

As a parent with kids, I like to bring my children to places in Singapore that they enjoy. One of these Singapore kids places I'll recommend is at Marine Cove, East Coast Park, Singapore.

These Singapore kids' places in East Coast Park are located between carpark C2 and carpark C3 along East Coast Park Service Road.
Marine Cove at East Coast Park is a commercial development that specialises in food and beverage businesses. There are many good eating places, restaurants and pubs, including the ubiquitous MacDonald's restaurant, to cater to various taste buds and budgets.
The core attraction for my family are the kids places to hang out, not the food and drinks, although we do enjoy dining at Marine Cove. Our favourite spot at Marine Cove is really beyond the bread and butter buildings.
Photo: Outdoor theme park is a suitable Singapore kids place. It is the mini outdoor kids' theme park that attracts us at this Singapore kids place. After dark, the excitement becomes palpable at this kids' place when the flashy lights, spinning wheels and children's screams come alive.
We love the good old miniature 'Singapore Flyer' here at a corner of this Singapore kids' place. Before the days of high technology and record-breaking heights, Ferris wheels that I sat in my childhood were of sufficient thrill by themselves. My kids can now get their turn to enjoy the same thrill as I did in this place.
The kids' carousel is another delightful horse-riding experience for children. The kid's ride at this Singapore kdis place may be short but going around in circles can send kids into a vertiginous high.
If your kids love challenging rides at such Singapore kids places, let them try the 'Viking'. This boat-like contraption swings like a pendulum and will surely make their hearts fly as high as their hair.
For a more down-to-earth kid ride, there is a miniature roller coaster ride at this Singapore kids place for the faint-hearted. Don't worry for your kids' safety as this ride resembles a slow train ride that does not rise more than two feet above ground.
Other attractions at this Singapore kids' place include an arcade hall that has games suitable for young kids and the young at heart. There is also a pasar malam or night market that sells interesting items including tidbits, fashion accessories and toy racing cars for kids and kids-at-heart.

I have seen couples taking wedding photographs during my visits to public parks and outdoor gardens but a green wedding certainly takes it up to the next level.
According to Nparks, couples can organise a green wedding and turn their memorable occasion into an environmentally-friendly affair.
Here are tips from Nparks on how couples can use parks for their "Green Wedding":
1. Use single layer invitation cards printed on recycled paper, treeless paper made from bamboo or other materials, or better yet, use e-invitations to reduce paper wastage.
2. If using disposable tableware, choose biodegradable products.
3. Encourage your guests to car-pool or van-pool.
4. Choose a caterer that is familiar with the venue to avoid any damage to the site during their setup or teardown.
5. Select wedding favors that are useful for your guests to minimise throwaways.
6. Consider using pre-owned items (e.g. wedding gown, decorations) for your wedding.
