I brought my kids to Singapore Changi Airport. After a meal at one of the restaurants there, we strolled around and discovered there was a Changi Airport T3 Slide.

Actually, we found two Changi Airport T3 slides. One Changi Airport T3 Slide was about single storey high, while the other Changi Airport T3 slide was about three storey high.
The slides appeared to be made of steel mesh and both slides ran close to each other. Kids lined up at the opening located at the top, entered the tunnel-like slide and re-appeared at the other end of the Changi Airport T3 slide at the other end.
The shorter Changi Airport T3 Slide is free for all kids to try, while the taller slide is only open to those who can produce a receipt for a minimum spend of $30. Each $30 receipt entitles the holder to 2 rides on the Changi Airport T3 slide.

This was the destination that took me close to Resorts World Sentosa during the June school holidays.
If you visit this playground on a cruise early enough, there will not be many other visitors. You will need to board the cruise early in order to get this playground all to yourself. Imagine having all these playground on a cruise to yourself and family.

However during weekends, on public holidays and during school holidays, Changi Beach playground comes alive with the sound and sight of toddlers, kids and teenagers.

It began with a bright sunny day at Mayfair Park Singapore. I walked around the quiet neighbourhood park along the junction of Jalan Gaharu and Rifle Range Road.
I was curious to find out how a neighbourhood park in this prestigious precinct inside district 9, 10 and 11 of Singapore looked like. Nestled amidst low-rise private landed properties, have you wondered if public parks in these areas might differ from other suburban parks in Singapore?

The sporty amenities at the adventure playground reminded me of those at West Coast Park, on a smaller scale. There was also a skate park for the adventurous to perform skate and bicycle stunts in the adventure zone. The item that I liked best was the hemispheric rope structure. However, it was out of commission and I could not challenge myself to scale new heights.

Bedok Ria Cresent Playground is located at Bedok Ria Crescent, off Bedok Road. It contains a small quiet playground with facilities for toddlers, kids and young children to entertain themselves. Under watchful eyes of carers, residents who are young and young at heart can be found at the Bedok Ria Cresent Playground. There are a few benches and a small walking path around the playground.

One unique feature of Bedok Ria Cresent Playground is its proximity to the Bedok Park Connector that runs alongside Sungei Bedok. If you bring a bike to this playground, you can cycle along the Bedok Park Connector and end up at Bedok Reservoir to the northwest or East Coast Park to the southeast.

At the end of Tai Keng Gardens off Jalan Lolam is a Singapore playground called Tai Keng Gardens Playground. This Singapore playground is situated smack in the middle of private residential properties off Upper Paya Lebar Road.
I came to know about this Singapore playground when I fetched my child from a classmate's residence after their meeting over a school project.
While waiting to perform duty as a chauffeur for my child, I took refuge from the afternoon sun in this shady playground in Singapore and wandered around the small green space in search of some photo-taking opportunities.

There were several playground structures that would keep a child happy in this part of Singapore. What struck me as an unusual feature of this playground was the inscription of nursery rhymes on squarish floor tiles.
Here's one nursery rhyme that you or your child living in Singapore will be familiar with:
Rock-a-Bye Baby on the tree top, When the wind blows, the cradle will rock. When the bough breaks, the cradle will fall, And down will come baby, cradle and all.
I wonder who would want to hang a cradle with a real baby to a tree branch, at Tai Keng Gardens Playground or at any other Singapore playground?

Upper Seletar Reservoir Playground
Upper Seletar Reservoir Park has a special place in my heart. I've written about my experience at the look-out tower (also known as 'rocket tower' to me).
It was with much pleasure when I brought my kids to Upper Seletar Reservoir park recently. For me, this was a trip back to my childhood. But for my kids, the buy-in was the children's playground.
The look-out tower did not elicit signs of affection from them. For one of my kids, the reaction was quite the opposite. It was the fear of height that struck my youngest child. She had to be coaxed to climb the spiral staircase.
I have no impression of a children's playground when I visited Upper Seletar Reservoir decades ago.

What impressed me then (and even to this day) was the look-out (rocket) tower that still stands. I believe this rocket tower has been designated as a Singapore economic heritage site.
The children's playground I saw at Upper Seletar Reservoir Park delighted my kids. There was a UFO-like playground equipment that could take four seated kids on a see-saw with four separate seats. This contraption allowed my three kids and I to bounce up and down, and to swing to the left and right as if we were riding a rocket blasting into space.

Besides this spaceship-like see-saw, there was also a drawing on a mat-like surface for a classic game called hopscotch.
In my school days, we used to draw the hopscotch course on sand or soil with a piece of stone. I looked at the present hopscotch design and was impressed by the colour and the wonderful material that cushioned the impact of our jumps.

Another colourful mat was noted near the hopscotch outline, although I have not figured out what game it is meant for. Does anyone know how to play that?
To round up the list of children's layground equipment at Upper Seletar Reservior park, there was a flying-fox-like piece of set-up where one could slide from one end to another.
If you run out of companion at this playground in Upper Seletar Reservoir, you may consider inviting the native residents to play with you. Just remember not to feed them at the end of your game.

Mugliston Park Playground
At around the time that I was trying to locate Kampong Lorong Buangkok, I discovered Mugliston Park Playground.
This small cozy park cum playground is located in the heart of landed properties, between Gerald Drive and Mugliston Park Road in Singapore. From Mugliston Park Playground, it is a short walk to Kampong Lorong Buangkok.
A colourful row of flowers greeted me upon my arrival at this playground cum mini-garden. A few park users were seen, walking their dogs. No kids or young children were seen at the Mugliston playground. It was empty of youngsters during my entire visit.
What caught my attention at Mugliston Park Playground was a notice regarding some sick trees at the Mugliston Park playground pasted on a wooden shelter.
Apparently the community garden’s Angsana Trees had been infected with Angsana Wilt Disease. This infection could cause the tall Angsana Trees to fall and potentially result in damage to property or injury to residents. Plans were afoot to remove the infected trees and to restore Mugliston Park Playground to its original condition.
I looked at the tall Angsana trees and shuddered at the thought that these gigantic trunks within Mugliston Park Playground could collapse at any time without warning.

Singaporeans, permanent residents and foreigners who stay a stone’s throw away from Stagmont Park in Singapore may have several concerns. At the same time, despite the economic recession raging throughout the globe, they are in for some pleasant bonuses.

First, the bad news: Stagmont Park is a beehive of activities for children, older kids and young adults. Think noise pollution. Think loss of peace and quiet. Due to the attractive children’s playground and a multi-purpose court for sports-related activities, Stagmont Park can be a focal point of screaming children and loud youths in basketball frenzy.
Another piece of bad news for residents living around Stagmont Park: candle wax defacement on park properties from use of lighted candles during past mooncake festivals. There may not be serious incidents that lead to open fires, but the possibility cannot be discounted.
And the bonuses (or good news)? Plenty.
The design layout of Stagmont Park is exquisite. Two arched bridges made of stone add a colonial Zen-like charm to Stagmont Park. A parched river, that connects two dry pools, cuts Stagmont Park into two unequal halves. With imagination, I could picture myself jumping into the ‘river’ to try my hand at ‘longkang’ fishing.
A fitness station laden with exercise equipment provides good incentives for the physically inactive to turn over a new leaf. Foot reflexology amenities cater to the elderly population, with a raised shelter built on stilts providing peaceful resting places for those physically strained.
Stagmont Park has a fun walkers trail for residents in this part of the island. Five rounds of walking around the perimeter of Stagmont Park (about two kilometers distance) will give a good workout for moderately active residents. A signboard offers detailed advice on how to perform warm-ups, stretching exercises and explains the many benefits of exercise.
BBQ pits, available for rental use by residents at Stagmont Park, will turn this area into a focus of feasting and family fun on some evenings.
Landscaping with unusual trees and interesting garden plants packed into Stagmont park raises the sensory experience by more than a notch. A Show Garden takes pride of place near the middle of Stagmont Park. It has a notice with a sign: “100,000 Native Plants @ South West Show Garden is a community initiative to root the community to live, work and play together in the South West District, by reinstating the natural heritage of Singapore.”
Stagmont Park seems to possess qualities that make it a good place to live, work and play. What do you think?

I have been sharing my views on the places of interest around Singapore in Seen This Scene That for almost one year. It's time to let my readers do the sharing today.

In The Sunday Times published 14 December 2008, an advertisement placed by the National Environment Agency announced that more places in Singapore will be smoke-free from 1 January 2009.
Smoking prohibition in certain places in Singapore has been implemented since 1970 and progressively extended over the years to cover many public places.
Of cheer to Seen This Scene That readers who like to enjoy clean air in our public parks and gardens is the designation of playgrounds and exercise areas as smoke-free places.
All playgrounds, fitness corners and games or sports courts in public and private housing estates, parks, hotels, etc will go smoke-free from 1 January 2009.
Games or sports courts include the following:
a. Basketball courts
b. Badminton courts
c. Sepak Takraw courts
d. Volleyball courts
e. Tennis courts
f. Street Soccer courts
To ensure that members of the public enjoy a healthier environment while using these facilities, all chairs, benches, spectator stands and side-walks immediately adjacent to such facilities will go smoke-free as well.
With the opening of the Marina Barrage, the Water Playground at Marina Barrage has to be the newest children’s playground in Singapore.
Being the newest children’s playground, the Water Playground at Marina Barrage has presented itself as the newest venue that I can bring my kids for some water activity and playground fun.
This water playground does not have fancy water tunnels to slide down. Neither does it have rolling waves in a pool created by machines to swim in. Yet the Marina Barrage Water Playground has plenty of evidence to show me that it will light up any child’s face.
It has curtains of water flowing from walls; sprays of water jets forming an arch; and rhythmic spouts of water that shoot straight up into the sky. There is an assortment of water fountains that will amaze and delight visitors to the Marina Barrage Water Playground.
Several kids jumped into the water fountain to bathe themselves. Other kids were busy trying to catch sprays of water with toy cups and plastic pails. Others ran across the fountain pond dodging water sprays along the way.

Eager parents were also seen frolicking around the wet pools, in the guise of helping their little ones to navigate around the fountain playground. Most adults simply sat or stood around the fountains to admire the rhythmic dance of water fountains as they kept one eye on their young family members. Some families came prepared with a picnic spread on mattresses laid beside the fountain.
With nightfall, the Water Playground mesmerized with colourful lights. Dancing columns of water with its ever-changing colours offered a simple spectacle, compared to Sentosa Island’s elaborate water fountain display.

During play at Marina Barrage’s Water Playground, caution is warranted. The water fountain may pose a hazard for kids who run on these wet surfaces. I saw a child slip and fall but fortunately sustained nothing more serious than a sore buttock and bruised ego.
This public water-themed children’s playground is a rare find in Singapore’s city centre. The use of space at the Marina Barrage to cater to children is an excellent way to attract kids (and their families) to enjoy themselves. At the same time, such visits can present an opportunity for the entire family to learn more about the Marina Barrage.
If you happen to be around the eastern half of Singapore looking for the best playground places for your children, search no further than Pasir Ris Park. Situated at Pasir Ris Road, off Elias Road, the kid’s playground at Pasir Ris Park is hidden far from White Sands Shopping Centre and the Pasir Ris MRT Station but well worth the effort to seek it out.
The playground at Pasir Ris Park consists of an enviable collection of playground toys. Catering to children of varying ages, the wide ranging playground items can even tempt parents like myself to try them out as well. This should not be done though, as there are signs that clearly indicate that the playground structures are suitable only for children. Logical reasons would firstly include the fact that the weight of large-sized adults may damage the playground toys on display, and secondly, you will certainly deprive kids out on their fun long weekend a chance to play.
There are few tags for the various play structures at this Pasir Ris Park playground. In any case, children do not need names and instructions to teach them how to utilize the toys for enjoyment. Simply release your children anywhere in this playground, and they will automatically latch on to the playground things that catch their fancies.

There are lights that keep the playground bright after dark, but it is prudent not to let kids stay out late at playgrounds late into the night. I have heard parents’ worry that sweaty kids exposed to night chill may end up falling ill, though I’m unsure of its validity.
West Coast Park Singapore: Best Playground In The West
I do not know about you, but for my family, 50-hectare size West Coast Park Singapore seems to possess the best kids’ playground in the west of Singapore. This area is located at West Coast Park Car Park 3. This was our conclusion after my family of five turned up for a visit to West Coast Park last Friday evening. West Coast Park’s Adventure-land and children’s playground were also highly recommended by two of my regular readers, yg and panzergrenadier.
Besides personal preferences, various other factors guided us to our conclusion.
Size Matters When it comes to playground fun, we find that size does matter. The larger space at West Coast Park allows a larger piece of real estate to be developed into playthings for children’s enjoyment. With more plaything structures, the choices increase. This allows even the most finicky child to find something agreeable to his or her taste.
Eclectic Selection More than that, we find that the selection of playground structures appears more eclectic than the common garden variety allocated to HDB neighbourhoods. Playground planners must have applied more industry to source for such challenging playground structures to seduce kids.
Adventure Park There are eight playground areas in West Coast Park 3 for your children to select. The ‘toys’ at the Adventureland area 8 are the most challenging and my favourite. Items like Uneven Spring Balance, Spinning Pads and Jungle Bridge require strength and balance to perform. Zipping down the flying fox contraption brought back memories of scouting days as I ‘tested’ the ropes to ensure my kids personal safety. The low, narrow and zig-zag patterned balance beams seemed to mirror the standard obstacle course (SOC) from my National Service days of long ago. For girls and boys who’ve never stepped onto Pulau Tekong, this is the kiddy version of Basic Military Training’s (BMT) introductory grounds that all National Servicemen must go through.
Children’s Playground A multiplex of interconnected structures form up to provide playground entertainment for children who raid West Coast Park’s playground. Children can pretend to be train drivers at the head of this structure, while others can climb its belly to play passengers on this playground train.
Open Natural Spaces A sheltered stage with night lighting fronts an open space near beachside. Soccer players, kite flyers, Frisbee throwers and practitioners of other sports and games are free to utilize this huge open area. Short strips of boardwalk allow nature appreciation at the marsh garden and a pond, located at the fringe of West Coast Park. Bird watchers will love the bird watching opportunities here.
Fast Food Convenience At the end of a day’s exertions, replenish fluid loss and restore empty stomachs at the lone fast food restaurant at McDonald’s where gourmet coffee and cakes are served too. Personal hygiene can be practiced at the public washrooms here as well.
Other activities Overnight camping is allowed. Cycling, roller blading, in-line skating, walking, jogging and other activities are also common sights here. Tranquil Sunset & Sea Views Lastly one of the main reasons why a place is called a park is the tranquil setting where wide spaces surrounded by greenery are premium features highly sought after by park users. A short pier at the rocky shore is the perfect place to enjoy the sea breeze and watch a lovely sunset over West Coast in a tranquil setting.
Easy Accessibility For maps, click Map of West Coast Park here. Free car parking is available next to the park along West Coast Highway. Bus stop. Service 176 stops directly in front of West Coast Park. Alternatively, services 30, 51, and 143 bring you to the front of Clementi Woods Park (West Coast Road) and a 5 minutes walk through West Coast Link will lead you to West Coast Park Area 3 (near to the Adventure Playground).
